From Jim Hartog:
"I have been playing, recording and touring with the 29th Street Saxophone Quartet (with Ed Jackson, Bobby Watson and Willie Williams or Rich Rothenberg) for over 28 years, with more than 7 records and innumerable radio and television appearances throughout Europe, the United States, in Istanbul, Puerto Rico and Canada. My recording resume includes three records as a leader (on New Note, Planet X and Resourceful Records) and sideman work with Carmen Lundy, Tom Varner, Keshavan Maslak, Bobby Watson (2), Craig Bailey, the East Down Septet (2), Bob Belden, and others. I have toured Europe with the New York Composers Orchestra, the FraFra Big Band, Bobby Watson, Tom Varner and performed under my own name in a variety of settings. I’ve also appeared with Mickey Roker, Joe Bushkin, Jaki Byard, the Mingus Big Band, the Village Vanguard Orchestra, the Kool Jazz World Music Concert (with Karl Berger, Don Cherry, Lee Konitz, et. al.), Tito Puente, Tommy Smith and Joel Forrester. In my additional role as educator, I have led instructional clinics at Manhattan School of Music, Berklee School of Music, throughout the Netherlands, in Switzerland and in Philadelphia and New Jersey. I spent a couple of years as well as docent at the Sweelinck Conservatorium Amsterdam. Over 24 of my compositions have been recorded (and published by among others, Second Floor Music, BMI), including works for saxophone quartets, small as well as large ensembles; also, l have recorded more than 33 of my original arrangements of standard compositions. Some of my saxophone quartet charts are now used as standard educational material in several music institutions and can even be heard being played by others on YouTube."
