I use the Vandoren V5 series B95.

Its really versatile. I used to think vandoren's were really not for jazz (and until recently i don't think they were...) but I really like this one.
Its also nice to have a new mouthpiece i like, because if i break it, i can get another.

I kind of wish they made one more a size up, the tip opening on this one is about 122, which is pretty nice, but i might like to try a 130 or so.

I also use Rico Jazz reeds, i like vandoren on all of my other horns, but for some reason they don't work for me on baritone (regardless of horn, mouthpiece etc). Does anyone else find that?

I am using a Berg Larsen Hard Rubber 130/3 with either 31/2, 3 Rico Reeds; Brancher Jazz 3 (if I can find them) or Vandoren 21/2 or 3 reeds. I have a Winslow Lig.

I am currently not happy with any of my reed choices. I love the mouthpiece because of its versatility and sound. It is very even and can be either a freight train or a cello. It responds extremely well.

I have been playing it for about nine years and really love it.

Well, I think my favorite is the mouthpiece I play on. I haven't played on many but i LOVE my RIA. It's a double chamber that's cut out like a berg larson. It's a size 8, and I play with 3Hard Rico jazz selects.

I've been using a Lawton 8* B for a long time now with #4 Rico Royals.
It has lots of power when I need it but I can also subtone down to a whisper all the way to the bottom of the horn.
Prior to that I had a Meyer 10S with Royal 5s when I was with The Ferguson Band.

The Runyon Custom Red #11 is the holy grail, but the Runyon Jaguar #9 I have found to be a great all around piece, is a close second. Both are free blowing and will let me do what I need at anytime.

For jazz I use My Masterpiece by French American Reeds #2, for Concert band I use My Masterpiece by French American Reeds #3 with a Runyon 88 #6, occasionally I'll pull out #2.5 Fibracell with a Runyon Jaguar #9.

I´m playing a Berg Larsen 120/3M (Long Facing, Big Chamber), grained ebonite.
I use Alexander Reeds (#3) (D.C. or Classique) and a Rovner Eddie Daniels II Ligature.
It works very good for me - lots of power and projection, but warm and not too edged.
Enormous dynamic range from sweet whisper to mighty roar.

A Runyon Smoothbore 10 is the best thing I've found to put on the end of my Bari. Nice clean response and a bit of brightness on ballads, roars like a lion when I'm with my R&B band.... Also the most ridiculously reed friendly mouthpeice I've ever come across, reeds, lollypop sticks, doctor's tongue depressers- bung them on and.. guess what- it plays exactly the same!

I'd been using a Lawton 8*B for about 3 years, I was reasonably happy with it but always seemed to have problems getting the bottom notes to really pop. Then a few months ago I tried a Jody Jazz Metal no.7. It's so powerful and the sound is rich and full and it has great dynamics. Whats so unusual is the very large chamber opening which I think allows the reed to vibrate more.(just a theory).
The sound I aim for is somewhere between Carney/Pepper/Smulyan. if thats of any use. I use it with a Mk6 Bb.

I've really fallen in love with my new Runyon Quantum Metal #12. It is the most responsive piece I own (I used to play both a metal and rubber Berg). It speaks in any register at any volume, not to bright, and when I put the spoiler in, it can completely overpower the entire big band I play with. I'm using Rico Jazz Selects unfiled 2s with the Rovner Lig that came with it.

My mouthpiece for jazz (I also play a lot of classical - Rousseau 4R) is an Otto Link Metal 7* that I have been playing for about 15 years. It has great flexibility, a wonderful solid "core" to the sound, and can take pretty much anything I put into it with a VanDoren ZZ 3 1/2 reed. I also like the Link Rubber 7* because it is very similar in response, but gives a little bit more woody, "old time" sound. I have tried numerous others over the years, like the Brancher, Rousseau JDX, RIA, Guardala, but nothing compares to the Linkm probably because it is the one I have been playing every day for 15 years.

I use a Berg Larsen 100/0 M, and it sounds great, but sometimes it drops notes that it really shouldn't. It doesn't happen all that often, but when it does it's very annoying. Other than that, it's been a great mouthpiece.

I use Otto Links. A Link Ebonite 6* with Vandoren Jazz 4 reeds and a Rovner Dark Ligature, because it makes my sax, Allison, like a dark chocolate-coated cannon. All warm and rich until you light the fuse and then comes the huge booming sound. This is mostly for general use, but when I want to play something with more edge I've got a Link 8* metal mouthpiece that I use with a 2 1/2 or 3 Vandoren traditional.

My favourite, since last year, is an Erik Greiffenhagen modified Yanagisawa #5 (tip opening 0.105"). It really opened up the upper register of my Martin, and it is the most freeblowing piece I have ever tried. This one is going to stay for a long time, I think.

After 3 years I am still absolutely in love with my Berg Larsen 110/0 metal. It was a handful at first, often squeaking here and there but after switching from hard cane reeds to medium synthetics, it really began to show through. It's bright and brilliant as hell with more than enough edginess to cut through the entire band. Really rips and roars. To this day, it remains a very stubborn piece. I've long since discovered that it will forever be chosing my reeds, not me.
Fibracells and the occasional consistent orange-box Rico seem to work best for this sucker. And god have mercy on me if I dare try anything else.

My new favourite Mouthpiece is Otto Link STM 8* refaced by HWP http://www.steamersound.de.
The mouthpiece is now close to the mouthpiece from Gary Smulyan :D
HWP refaced the Ligature, too!
My favourite reeds on this mpc are Vandoren ZZ 2 1/2

I've been using my faithful Lawton 8*b for nearly 30 years now with Rico Royal 4's on my silver plate low A mkVI, bought new in 1976. ( one of the last ones!) I use it on for everything, jazz gigs, big band and pit work .Tried others, I have a HR Link 7* modified by Dave Jary to an 8 which is ok, but I keep coming back to the Lawton. Used to blow a Berg, both Hr and SS in my younger days and also a Brillhart Levelair. Tried a 8* STM once, couldn't get on with it at all.

Hi,

I am in 11th grade and have been playing a vandoren v16 b5 with a leather ligature for a year now, I currently use 3 vandoren zz reeds and find the setup easy to play on with a nice, but not overly strong tone. I found a used berg Larsen 130/2 that intrigued me because I am looking for a more open mouthpiece but I'm nt sure if it will be too big even if I go to down to number 2 reeds. Does anyone know if this will have a good sound or not? Also, I do practice for about 45 minutes to an hour a day so I'm in pretty good shape with my embechoure.

Thanks
BillyL

I have a Lady Face 12 M Conn Baritone Saxophone.
I am wanting to sell it-but don't know if it is best to polish-repad it before I sell it.
Opinions?

I use an SR Technology Pro mouthpiece - came across it completely by accident, but am thrilled with it. I also got one for alto, and am thinking of moving from my Guardala (Brecker Mk II) on tenor to one. I play it with 3.5 Rico Royal reeds (am just experimenting with Java red box reeds, might move to those); the horn is a Yani 992.
